Ukraine sees 3.1% rise in real GDP in Q1 – statistics

Ukraine saw a 3.1% increase in real GDP in the first quarter of 2018 year-over-year.

Ukraine's economic growth accelerated in the first quarter from 2.2% in the fourth quarter of 2017, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said.

GDP growth in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter (Q4 2017), taking into account the seasonal factor, was 0.9%.

The report does not include data from the Russian-occupied areas in Ukraine, namely the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported, the State Statistics Service reviewed its estimate of real GDP growth of Ukraine in 2017 to 2.5% from 2.2%, according to an update. The indicator for the fourth quarter alone was increased to 2.2% from 1.8%.

The government of Ukraine predicts 3% economic growth this year amid 9% inflation, while the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank project GDP growth will be about 3.5% amid 10% inflation in 2018.
