Illumination level in occupied Crimea decreases – Ukraine's ministry

The Ukrainian Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons says illumination on the peninsula has decreased since the Russian-annexation of Crimea.

"One of the indirect methods to assess the economic state in any region is to measure illumination levels at night by analyzing satellite imagery. The level of illumination in the temporarily occupied Crimea at night in 2016 decreased against 2012, which indicates a decline in the level of economic activity over the said period. In total, the level of illumination on the temporarily occupied peninsula decreased by 26%," the ministry said.
