Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Yakiv Smolii has said Ukraine may get the fifth tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by autumn.

In an interview with Zn.ua, he recalled that Ukraine had committed to raise gas tariffs and pass a law on the Anti-Corruption Court to receive the IMF tranche.

Smolii said Naftogaz of Ukraine had presented the IMF with another concept of gas market, which the Fund eventually found acceptable for the continuation of negotiations. And the Verkhovna Rada has recently passed a law on the Anti-Corruption Court.

"The IMF mission usually arrives in Kyiv in about a week or two after agreeing on all the issues and making a decision. It works here for about two weeks, after which it goes to Washington and prepares documents for a meeting of the Board of Directors. It is another two weeks. After the decision is taken by the Board of Directors, a few more weeks are needed for its completion and transfer of funds. Thus, it takes about two months for all procedures to be completed, i.e. it is possible by the autumn," he said.

Earlier, Smolii said the new IMF program would be available to Ukraine no earlier than 2020 due to the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections in the country in 2019. According to the NBU head, the new program will duplicate the conditions that Ukraine has not fulfilled within the current program.
