On May 29, 2018, Aliyev launched the first string of the Southern Gas Corridor project, aimed at transporting natural gas from Azerbaijan to the EU.

Project cost is estimated at over $40 billion.

Deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to Europe are expected by 2020 in the amount of 10 billion cubic meters. In addition, 6 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas will be supplied to the western regions.
