Ukraine boosts construction works by 1.8% in Jan-May

Construction from scratch, reconstruction, and technical re-equipment over the period under review accounted for 80% of total operations.

Ukrainian construction firms in January-May 2018 boosted construction works by 1.8% year-over-year (y-o-y), to UAH 36.3 billion (US$1.4 billion).

The construction of buildings over the period under review grew by 1%, to UAH 19.87 billion ($755.2 million). In particular, construction of residential buildings rose by 2%, to UAH 10.7 billion ($406.7 million), while construction of commercial buildings was down by 0.1%, to UAH 9.178 billion ($348.8 million). Moreover, construction of engineering facilities grew by 2.7%, to UAH 16.428 billion ($624.4 million), the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said.

Construction from scratch, reconstruction, and technical re-equipment in January-May accounted for 80% of total operations, while the share of overhauls and maintenance repairs was at 10.7% and 9.3%, respectively.

Construction firms in Kyiv alone maintained their operations at the level of the previous year, that is UAH 8.953 billion ($340.3 million), over the period under review, accounting for 24.7% of the total construction works across the country.

The State Statistics Service said the report did not include data from the temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, as well as Russian-occupied Donbas in the east of Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's construction firms in 2017 boosted construction by 20.9% against 2016, to UAH 101.1 billion ($3.8 billion).

Construction companies improved their performance by 13.1% in 2016, to UAH 70.9 billion ($2.7 billion), whereas they reduced the amount of construction works by 14.9% in 2015, to UAH 55.9 billion ($2.1 billion).
