Several dozen foreign tourists flying from the city of Zaporizhia were onboard the plane, the local news outlet Novyny Poltavshchyny (Poltava Region News) reported.

Commander of the plane Oleksandr Zhyhalov told the publication that his previous flight to Poltava was 30 years ago. He says the airport has improved significantly since then.

General Director of Poltava Airport Volodymyr Okara says the tourists have arrived from the United States, Canada, China, and European countries. After visiting Poltava, they are going to fly to the city of Kryvyi Rih and return to Zaporizhia.

As was earlier reported, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers on December 20, 2017, granted Poltava Airport the status of an international airport. In March, Poltava Regional State Administration elected Okara as the airport's new general director. Repairs to the airport started in April. The first international flight from Poltava Airport was due to be made in May. However, flights had to be postponed because of the delay in repair works.
