State enterprise Odesa Aircraft Plant, part of Ukraine's state-run military-industrial concern Ukroboronprom, jointly with U.S.-based Aviastar Invest Corp and DISTAR CZ a.s. (Czech Republic), is planning to develop and produce aircraft in Ukraine.

The parties reached an agreement on the start of cooperation, Ukroboronprom's press service said in a statement on August 6.

The companies also agreed to establish an international regional service center for current and major repairs of aircraft and helicopters, as well as introduction of procedures for training cadets and pilots under the existing NATO programs.

Ukroboronprom Deputy Director General for Aircraft Industry Oleksandr Paschenko says international cooperation in the field of aircraft construction is the basis for the development of Ukrainian enterprises in the industry.

"Ukraine is one of the few countries in the world capable of producing aircraft. Our task is to unite Ukrainian design and production capacities with modern western avionics, which will effectively integrate the Ukrainian aircraft construction into the global system," the press service quoted the official as saying.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in July, Kyiv-based state-owned Antonov and Aviall Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Boeing Corporation, signed a general agreement on cooperation in the production of modernized An-148, An-158 and An-178 aircraft, which will be designated as An -1X8 NEXT.
