Minister Reva says another US$251 mln may be needed to pay household subsidies

Ukrainian Social Policy Minister Andriy Reva says UAH 7 billion (US$251.3 million) may be needed additionally to pay subsidies to Ukrainian households to compensate housing and utilities costs before the end of 2018 under the worst-case scenario.

"We have calculated different options, including a negative one. We will need no more than UAH 7 billion in subsidies before the end of the current year (under the worst-case scenario)," he told TV Channel 112 Ukraine on August 28.

Now there is no need for additional funds, according to the official.

"Today, not all the state budget funds – about UAH 55 billion [$2 billion] from [allocated] UAH 71 billion [$2.5 billion] – have been used to pay subsidies," the minister added.

Next year, the size of subsidies will depend on gas prices.

About 4 million Ukrainians applied to re-register subsidies in the summer of 2018. As a result, 3.2 million people have been entitled to subsidies.
