An environmental disaster is unfolding in northern Crimea as residents of Armyansk, Krasnoperekopsk and Dzhankoy complain of air pollution with sulfuric acid evaporations.

A suffocating odor is spreading across towns, TSN reports.

Numerous locals are reported to be experiencing similar allergic symptoms, such as: nausea, burning in the nasopharynx, and unnatural thirst. Motor vehicles, household appliances, furniture, and playgrounds are covered with rust or gray-green settling.

Russian-controlled "head" of Crimea Sergey Aksenov has admitted the situation is beyond the norm. However, he claims there is no threat to people's life and health.

Locals suggest the emissions come from a local titanium producer, Crimean Titan plant, owned by Ukrainian oligarch Dmytro Firtash. Intense evaporations are due to a lack of water in the plant's reservoir. Crimean Titan CEO Andrei Akulov said he was ready to cooperate with the authorities.

An investigation is underway in Armyansk with the participation of the so-called "Ministry of Ecology" of Crimea.

Eyewitnesses continue to publish photos proving the fact of the environmental disaster in the occupied Armyansk. The relevant photos were published by RoksolanaToday&Crimea on Twitter.
