Top manager of State Geoagency detained in anti-corruption raid

The official demanded a bribe from a local business for gaining a right to monitor generalized geological data in its operations.

The National Police and Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv region on Monday detained acting chief of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine upon receiving a US$3,000 bribe, that's according to the PGO press secretary Larysa Sargan.

"The official demanded and received from a business representative improper benefit in the amount of $3,000 for assistance in obtaining the package of documents necessary for peat extraction works," Sargan wrote on Facebook.

According to the National Police, the official had organized a corrupt scheme, demanding bribes from businesses, practically for resolving in their favor issues within the range of his professional competence.

The man was detained as he was receiving a bribe in his vehicle.
