Defense budget 2019 to be over 5% of GDP - NSDC

One of the budget priorities for the next year on the president's instructions is a significant increase in the monetary allowance of Ukrainian troops.

In 2019, more than 5% of GDP will be spent on the needs of the security and defense sector of Ukraine.

A corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on Thursday, based on the discussion of the main parameters of the 2019 defense budget, the NSDC press service reported.

"One of the important budget priorities for the next year, on the instruction of the president of Ukraine, is a significant increase in the monetary allowance of servicemen," said NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.

Among the priority directions of financing for 2019, it is planned to: implement measures to develop, prepare and purchase new types of weapons and military equipment, in particular, modern high-precision missile weapons (missile systems and complexes, in particular, cruise missiles); strengthen the air defense system and aviation capabilities of the Air Force; implement the state policy in the field of cybersecurity, take measures to develop and modernize special communication and information security system; implement the National Intelligence Program for 2016-2020, and strengthen counter-intelligence, counter-terrorism, and counter-sabotage measures, the press service says.
