SBU signs memo on cybersecurity with Ukrenergo, Ukrhydroenergo

The document should ensure the exchange of information on cyber threats between the SBU and strategically important enterprises in Ukraine's energy sector.

The SBU Security Service of Ukraine has signed a memorandum with the state-owned operator of Ukraine's united power grids Ukrenergo and Private Joint-Stock Company Ukrhydroenergo to develop an effective state cybersecurity system.

"The document should ensure the exchange of information on cyber threats between the SBU and strategically important enterprises in Ukraine's energy sector with the use of the MISP-UA platform. The exchange of information, in particular on realized and potential cyberthreats, takes place in online mode. Such interdepartmental interaction will primarily contribute to an effective response from Ukrainian special services to cyber attacks of a high degree of complexity," the SBU press center said in a statement on September 16.

It is noted that cybercriminals have repeatedly carried out cyber attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities' computer networks, using the destructive Black Energy software,

Earlier, the SBU's Cybersecurity Situation Center created a system based on the MISP (Malware Information Sharing Platform) for collecting and processing information on cybersecurity incidents and exchanging technical data between security sector entities on the identifiers of compromising information systems of critical infrastructure objects in online mode. The platform is widely used all over the world. It meets the international standards of the EU and NATO and is used by key international actors in the cybersecurity field, namely FIRST, CIRCL, CiviCERT, NATO NCI Agency.
