Ukraine's state debt shrinks in dollars, expands in hryvnias

It shrank by 1.1% in August.

Ukraine's state and government-guaranteed debt in August shrank by 1.1%, or US$0.86 billion, to US$74.85 billion.

At the same time, the country's debt in the hryvnia equivalent increased by 4.2%, or UAH 91 billion, to UAH 2.117 trillion for this period, the Finance Ministry of Ukraine has reported.

Since the beginning of the year, the debt has decreased by 1.9% and in dollars and by 1.2% in the hryvnia equivalent.

UNIAN memo. Ukraine's state and government-guaranteed debt in 2017 grew by 7.5%, to US$76.3 billion in dollars and by 11% to UAH 2.1 trillion in the hryvnia equivalent. The country's government on August 22 adopted a three-year national debt strategy, which foresees a reduction by the end of 2020 to a level not exceeding 49% of GDP and optimization of the debt structure.
