Ukraine's Fiscal Service comes under cyber attack – statement

The internet provider identified a denial of service attack, the report says.

The State Fiscal Service of Ukraine says its electronic resources were targeted by a cyber attack, according to the agency's press service.

Starting at 18:00 on Monday, October 8, the “E-Cabinet” online service for tax payers was attacked, and starting Tuesday morning, the official website of the agency came under attack as well.

“The provider has identified a denial of service attack and applied a protection mechanism. The indicated cyber interference downed access to the “E-Cabinet” resources and the official web portal of the SFS of Ukraine” for some internet users,” the statement reads.

In accordance with the rules of interaction between the executive authorities on the protection of state information resources of the State Fiscal Service, the State Special Communication Service Administration was immediately briefed on the ongoing DoS attacks.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in May this year, Ukraine's cyber security experts stated that the level of complexity of cyber attacks increases every year, and it becomes more difficult to identify them.

This week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Russia would be actively meddling in the electoral process in Ukraine, through various means, ranging from disinformation to cyber attacks, says President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

Earlier, the UK accused Russia’s military intelligence service of leading a campaign of “indiscriminate and reckless cyber attacks targeting political institutions, businesses, media and sport,” the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre said in a statement.
