Russia detains Ukrainian fishing vessel with crew in Sea of Azov - media

The boat was escorted to the port of Yeisk.

Russia's Coast Guard in the Sea of Azov detained a Ukrainian fishing boat for "violating the rules of fishing," according to a report by an FSB office in the Krasnodar Territory.

“A small foreign-flagged watercraft was revealed in the Yeysk Spit area," reads the report, according to RFE/RL.

The vessel was "detained and escorted to the port of Yeisk. More than 240 kilograms of fish was found in the boat, including 17 perches, on which a fishing ban is imposed, as well as a dozen nets. The catch and prohibited fishing tools were seized," the report says.

The captain of the detained vessel was fined RUB 5,000, while the boat was confiscated, according to a court ruling.

Earlier it was reported that Russia threatened to "shut down" the Sea of Azov for Ukrainian vessels "within minutes."
