Ukraine, Lithuania sign agreement to protect migrant workers' rights

Ukrainian Minister of Social Policy Andriy Reva signed the document on behalf of Ukraine.

Ukraine and Lithuania have signed an agreement to protect migrant workers' rights and fight against illegal employment at the legislative level.

"Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Andriy Reva and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius have signed an agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania on employment and cooperation in the field of labor migration," the press service of Ukraine's Ministry of Social Policy reported.

The agreement was signed to develop friendly relations between the countries and to legislatively safeguard the social and labor rights of Ukrainian citizens who are employed in Lithuania and, accordingly, Lithuanian citizens who are employed in Ukraine.

"This agreement regulates labor migration between the two states and will help strengthen cooperation in protecting the rights and interests of workers of Ukraine and workers of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as combating illegal employment," the ministry said.

As reported by UNIAN, trade between Ukraine and Lithuania in 2018 grew by 20%. Trade between the countries in 2017 was estimated at US$1.054 billion.
