"The signed resolution introduces a ban on the import into Russia of goods, originating from Ukraine or transported through the territory of Ukraine, according to the approved list. The main volume of goods subject to the ban imposed are classified as industrial ones. The list also includes agricultural products, raw materials, and food," the Russian government's press service told UNIAN.

At the same time, the Russian government may decide to abolish the special economic measures introduced, if Ukraine lifts the restrictive measures earlier imposed on certain Russian goods, the press service added.

Thus, Russia announced a ban on food imports from Ukraine for the second time. The relevant decision has already been taken as part of the embargo on food supplies from the EU and Ukraine. In particular, such restrictions with regard to Ukraine have been in effect since January 1, 2016.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 26, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) slapped additional sanctions against individuals and legal entities from the Russian Federation over the seizure of three Ukrainian vessels and their crews near the Kerch Strait in the Black Sea on November 25 and illegal local "elections" in Russian-occupied Donbas.
