Ukraine's National Energy and Utilities Regulation Commission (NEURC) says new renewable energy facilities with capacity of 742.5 MW were put into operation in Ukraine in 2018, which was 2.8 times up from 2017.

"Generating facilities with capacity of 742.5 MW were commissioned in 2018, which was 2.8 times up from those put into operation in 2017. The solar power plants (SPP) and wind power plants (WPP) accounted for 96% of the commissioned capacity," the NEURC reported.

The NEURC in 2018 set a profitable "green" tariff for 202 electric power facilities, including 163 SPPs, 11 WPPs, 16 biogas/biomass facilities, and 12 small-scale hydropower plants (HPPs).

The average unit capacity of power facilities commissioned in 2018 was 3 MW.

Ukraine's Kherson region was in the lead in terms of the commissioned green energy facilities in 2018 (227.2 MW).

As UNIAN reported, the total installed capacity of renewables in Ukraine in 2017 stood at almost 1.375 GW.

Thus, the total installed capacity of renewable sources of energy in 2018 reached 2.117 GW.

On October 1, 2014, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers approved the national renewable energy action plan until 2020, which provides for an increase in the share of renewables in the total electricity generation balance from about 1% to 11%.

The main incentive of renewable energy generation in Ukraine is the so-called green or feed-in tariff, which is higher than other power rates.
