Europe's major discount air carriers, Ireland's Ryanair and Hungary's Wizz Air, will start their flights to and from the Odesa Airport as early as this summer, according to Ukraine's infrastructure minister Volodymyr Omelyan.

“I think we'll be able to welcome discounters Ryanair and Wizz Air in Odesa in summer this year,” the official told one of Ukraine's TV channels.

At the same time, Omelyan stressed that before the carriers start operating on Odesa routes, repair works are yet to be completed in the city airport.

“We will make every effort so that in mid-2019, all works on the construction of the runway at the Odesa Airportwill be completed. It’s realistic to fully commission the facility by the end of the year – both the runway and new taxiways, which are necessary for the operation of the new terminal,” he said.

As reported by UNIAN, last year Omelyan said that the airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air intended to significantly expand their presence in Ukraine.
