"In 2019, the government will allocate UAH 14.7 billion for the renovation of local roads, which is UAH 3 billion ($106 million) more than last year. Ukrainians have to enjoy good roads not only between big cities, but also inside small villages," he wrote on Facebook on January 12.

The prime minister says local roads are the responsibility of, first of all, regional state administrations.

Groysman stressed that the government would strictly control the use of allocated funds and demand quality repairs.

As UNIAN reported, according the State Road Agency of Ukraine, Ukravtodor, about UAH 20 billion ($707 million) will be allocated for the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of public roads of state importance in 2019 from the total amount of UAH 34.4 billion ($1.2 billion) envisaged by the Road Fund for such roads. In total, over UAH 50 billion ($1.8 billion) is earmarked in the budget for repairs and construction of roads of local and state importance, which is a record amount over Ukraine's independence. Pothole brigades repaired about 4.69 million square meters of potholes on about 18,000 kilometers of national roads in 2018.
