"In January 2019, the Ukrainian industry transferred to new standards for the classification and measurement of timber and lumber products," the agency's press service said in a statement on January 9.

In particular, approaches to determining the size and quality characteristics of timber and lumber have been changed. So, if earlier industrial wood (round timber) in Ukraine was divided into three varieties and had a number of assortments by designation, as of 2019 it will be classified only in terms of quality, as is the case in European countries.

The agency also said that the principle of round timber classification under the European standardization system is based on the size and quality rather than on assortments.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the forest restoration area at logging sites in Ukraine in 2018 increased by 10%, to 43,700 hectares.
