The SBU Security Service of Ukraine along with the prosecutor's office in Vinnytsia region have blocked the illegal export of military helicopter engines.

In the course of the investigation, operatives revealed that the four Mi-24 engines in question had earlier been brought to Ukraine for an overhaul from one of the Middle Eastern states, while the customer later failed to pay for the services provided, according to the SBU press service.

The engines were transferred to state ownership to be later auctioned off.

The SBU documented that a pair of Zaporizhia-based businessmen found buyers from a UN-sanctioned country, putting an almost US$ 1 million price tag. Also, the perpetrators guaranteed their customers that a package of falsified papers would be prepared to ensure unhindered exports under the guise of civilian products.

The offenders were arrested upon their attempt to seal the deal.

Searches are underway. Investigators are checking information about other transactions with the sanctioned country that the perpetrators might have carried out earlier.
