Ukraine's Economic Development and Trade Ministry says Ukraine has pulled out of a deal defining the general terms of commodities shipments between the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

"Today, January 30, the government has supported the Economic Development Ministry's initiative and terminated for Ukraine the Agreement on the General Conditions for the Supply of Goods between CIS Organizations," the ministry's press service said on Wednesday.

The relevant agreement of 1992 defined the principles for concluding, introducing changes and terminating intergovernmental trade and economic agreements of the CIS countries, in particular, volumes, limits, terms of goods delivery, as well as assigned specific suppliers to certain buyers, it said.

"According to the Economic Development Ministry, the provisions of this agreement contain outdated regulations typical of a centrally planned economy, which is unacceptable and does not comply with the modern principles of a market-oriented economy in Ukraine. In addition, today there are also no actual interstate trade and economic agreements between the CIS member states," it said.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry will inform the CIS Executive Committee on withdrawal from the deal in the prescribed manner.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on January 23, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to halt Ukraine's participation in three agreements on economic cooperation within the CIS.
