The water area must be cleaned and deepened in the area of the Bridge, the expert believes.
The author of two Ukrainian projects of the Kerch Strait Bridge, engineer and bridge designer Georgy Rosnovsky states that navigation standards were violated during the bridge construction of the bridge.
“What they're building is terrible. There are even documents that say that it’s impossible to build a bridge because of the shipping conditions, it's only 35 meters above the water – this is unacceptable, it should be at least 50, or better 70 meters. A small part of the bridge is open for shipping, while other spans are smaller, which is also unacceptable," Rosnovsky said, commenting to Obozrevatel on the published data on the actual depths of the Kerch port water area, which began shrinking once the Bridge connecting the occupied peninsula with mainland Russia.

According to the expert, warnings about navigation issues that the Bridge could entail had been voiced 15 years ago.
"There is a letter from the then-chief of the Kerch port, who wrote that it was impossible to build a bridge there because the navigable canal has turns, but the Kerch Strait is wider than the navigable part. Because of the Kerch Strait Bridge, it’s not clear where the navigation limits are, therefore some ships run stranded," said the bridge builder.
Rosnovsky believes that the water area must be cleaned and deepened in the area of the Bridge, but to accomplish the task, new research is required, meaning more funding.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russia started building the Kerch Bridge back in April 2015. On May 15, 2018, the motorway part of the bridge was opened, connecting the Russian Krasnodar Territory with the occupied Crimea.
