Facebook audience in Ukraine grows by 3 mln people in 2018 (Infographics)

The number of Facebook users in Ukraine in 2018 increased by 30%, or 3 million, in 2018.

Some 13 million Ukrainians used Facebook as of January 1, 2019, itc.ua reported on February 13, referring to a survey conducted by the Ukrainian-based PlusOne Agency.

The number of Facebook users in Ukraine in the five years (since March 2014) grew by 9.8 million people (306.2% up).

Since May 2017, the number of Ukrainians who used Facebook had increased by 56.6%, from 8.3 million to 13 million as of December 2018. In the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2018, the number of Facebook users in Ukraine grew by 1 million.

Thus, Ukraine ranked third in the world in terms of Facebook users following only India and the Philippines.

Over the past five years, the number of Facebook users in Ukraine has increased significantly thanks to the blocking of Russian social networks. As of December 2018, some 30.95% of Ukrainians used social networks, while the share of Facebook users continued to grow. Ukraine's western regions are in the lead in terms of Facebook penetration. The lowest rates are observed in the south and east of Ukraine. Most active users are in the cities of Kyiv, Lviv and Uzhgorod.

Facebook is used by Ukrainians aged 13 (the minimum age from which it is allowed to use it under the rules) and older. However, many users under 13 also use Facebook, indicating the older age.

Ukraine is in the lead in terms of the proportion of women, Facebook users, who accounted for 59%. Some 8.8 million Ukrainians log in to this social network from a mobile phone, 1.2 million from a computer, and 3.0 million from both types of devices.

Some 2.1 million Ukrainian-based Facebook users aged 18-24 account for 68.28% of the total number of Ukrainians of this age group. The share of those aged 25-35 is 62.43% (4.6 million people), while the country's Facebook users aged 36-45 account for 48.18% (3 million people).

The most popular brands of smartphones used to log in to Facebook are Samsung (3.9 million people use it), Xiaomi (2.7 million) and Apple (2.5 million). Expensive smartphones (iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, Sony Xperia X23, Samsung Galaxy Note 9) are actively used in Kyiv (2.69%) and Odesa (2.07%). Then come Ukraine's western cities: Uzhgorod (1.66%), Lviv (1.51%), Chernivtsi (1.43%), Ternopil (1.28%), and Ivano-Frankivsk (1.27%). The smallest share of the expensive smartphones users is registered in the cities of Dnipro (1.19%) and Kharkiv (1.17%).

The analysis was based on data from Facebook ads tools, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, Factum Group, Digital 2019 reports from Hootsuite and We Are Social, and Google.
