Ukraine's PGO: Almost US$55.5 mln confiscated from Yanukovych's allies sent to Treasury

The Prosecutor General said the money would be spent on Ukraine's army.

Press Secretary of Ukraine's Prosecutor General Larysa Sargan has reported that almost UAH 1.5 billion, or US$55.5 million, confiscated from disgraced ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych's allies has been transferred to Ukraine's State Treasury.

"I'm informing those who had doubts: today, February 22, 2019, funds in the amount of 1,478,480,000 hryvnias have been transferred to the bank account of the State Treasury Service of Ukraine," she wrote on Facebook on February 22.

Also Sargan published photocopies of two payment documents: one for the sum of UAH 1.207 billion and UAH 271.2 million. Other details have been redacted.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on February 15, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko wrote on Facebook that, thanks to the efforts of the International Cooperation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, it became possible to execute a court ruling on special confiscation of funds of Yanukovych's criminal organization in the amount of UAH 1.478 billion. The assets were supposed to be transferred to the Treasury.

The Prosecutor General said the money would be spent on Ukraine's army. "The army will receive new missiles, anti-tank systems, armored vehicles, fire control systems. And the border guards will be able to complete the state border infrastructure system," he said.
