This is a realistic task, the president believes.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hopes that over the next 5 years, access to high-speed internet will be provided wherever there is electricity across the country.

Speaking at the meeting of the Regional Development Council of Lviv region, the president said: “The internet over the next five years should be everywhere where there is electricity. Broadband in every village... Is this realistic? Obviously, it's just that no one had earlier set such goals before. How will we train IT specialists if there is no internet in rural areas?"

As UNIAN reported earlier, experts of the Better Regulation Delivery Office predict that, if Ukraine increases to 19 million the number of subscribers paying for fixed broadband access to the internet, this market will grow more than four times, to UAH 23 billion.

In mid-February, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv noted that the increase in the number of Ukrainian broadband internet users by 10% adds to GDP some EUR 4-6 billion, and therefore the government will focus on expanding public access to modern communications.
