Ukraine's Finance Ministry says that the arrival of EUR 500 million in a new disbursement of the European Union's Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) in March is unlikely.

"There is little time left this month," Ukrainian Deputy Finance Minister Vasyl Shkuratov told UNIAN in a comment. "I think we should plan a later period. That's why we have conducted an additional placement to borrow US$350 million. We detected the possibility of this placement and conducted it," he added.

"The [EU] evaluation mission is now working [for the disbursement of the second tranche of the EU's MFA], drawing up its conclusions," he said.

"We are trying to fulfill all the stipulated conditions. Some issues are in the process of solving," he added.

In early March, the Finance Ministry announced Ukraine had fulfilled more than half of the commitments for getting the second MFA EUR 500 million tranche from the European Union.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the European Council in June 2018 finally approved the fourth program of macro-financial assistance for Ukraine in the amount of EUR 1 billion.

In December 2018, the European Commission provided Ukraine with the first disbursement worth EUR 500 million in the form of a loan at an interest rate of 1.25% per annum due in April 2033.

On March 12, 2019, Ukraine's Finance Ministry additionally placed eurobonds worth $US350 million at 9.75%. The securities are maturing on November 1, 2028.
