Sales of used cars in Ukraine soar by 7 times in Jan-April

Sales of used cars in Ukraine's primary market formed by imports rose by 7 times in January-April 2019 year-over-year (y-o-y), to 206,930 vehicles.

Some 22,500 cars with mileage were registered in April 2019 alone, the Ukrautoprom Association's press service said.

As a result, the share of used cars in the primary market was almost 77%.

"Compared to April last year, registration of imported cars increased by 3.5 times, while their share in the primary market grew by 28%. Vehicles older than 10 years accounted for 50% of the registered cars," the report said.

When choosing a foreign car with mileage, Ukrainians more often preferred those with diesel engines, it said.

"Last month, such cars accounted for 53% of the initial registrations of used cars imported into Ukraine. At the same time, the share of petrol cars was 35%, that of natural gas vehicles was about 9%, while electric cars and hybrid vehicles accounted for 3%," the press service added.

In April, Volkswagen was in the lead with 3,700 used cars sold, it said.

The Skoda brand ranked second with 1,848 cars with mileage sold in the fourth month of 2019.

Renault was third with 1,821 used cars sold.

Demand for Opel and Ford cars was also high, that is 1,777 units and 1,550 units, respectively.

As reported, the most popular models among imported used cars in April were: Volkswagen Passat (1,514 units), Skoda Octavia (1,150 units) and Renault Megane (1,138 units).

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2018 doubled sales of used cars, to 116,800 units.
