Ukraine's Lviv Armor Vehicle Factory, part of the state-run military-industrial concern Ukroboronprom, has developed a new armored recovery and repair vehicle (ARRV) dubbed "Zubr" ('Bison").

The vehicle was created for technical support of tank units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian portal DefenseExpress.

"The Zubr was developed by Lviv Armor Vehicle Factory in 2018. Preparations for its major testing are under way. [Equipment] validation for use by Ukraine's Armed Forces is expected by the end of this year," the factory's chief engineer, Herman Smetanin, said.

The ARRV prototype was built on the basis of the Soviet T-55 main battle tank, but it can also use the hull of the T-54 tank or the BTS-4 armored towing vehicle.

According to the engineer, the new vehicle has a 12-tonne jib crane and a 25-tonne winch for recovery of damaged equipment from the battlefield.

As was earlier reported, Kharkiv-based Malyshev Plant had launched mass production of new tracks for infantry fighting vehicles.
