"Two friendly countries, for the first time in the history of bilateral relations, have held meaningful negotiations on consular issues. Delegations analyzed the status and prospects of cooperation in the visa and migration spheres, considered issues related to protection of the rights and interests of both countries' citizens and legal entities, as well as exchanged their consular services' main achievements and discussed prospects for expansion of mutual consular presence," the Ukrainian agency wrote on Facebook on May 31.

"In order to institutionalize the Costa Rican side's decision on the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens to enter its territory, the sides agreed to conclude an appropriate bilateral agreement on visa-free travel," the Ukrainian diplomats said.

Director-General for Consular Service at Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Serhiy Pohoreltsev and Ambassador of Ukraine to Costa Rica Ruslan Spirin held separate meetings with Minister of the Presidency of Costa Rica Rodolfo Piza Rocafort, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Carlos Benavides Jiménez, chairmen of parliamentary factions, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship H. E. Lorena Aguilar Revelo.

They expressed gratitude for the consistent support of Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and initiatives at the United Nations, as well as discussed ways of further bilateral cooperation, in particular, in economic, migration, and humanitarian spheres.
