Rada ratifies energy annex to Ukraine-EU Association Agreement

The document will open for Ukraine the possibility of deeper legal and infrastructural integration in the field of energy, which is defined as a priority area in rapprochement with the EU.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Thursday, June 6, adopted a law ratifying the decision of the Ukraine-EU Association Council on introducing changes and additions to the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, which will provide an impetus to further reform the energy market of Ukraine and integrate it into the EU markets.

A total of 231 deputies supported the bill, with the required minimum of 226 votes.

As UNIAN reported earlier, introducing changes and additions to Annex 27 (on energy) to the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement will open up for Ukraine the possibility of deeper legal and infrastructural integration in the field of energy, which is one of the four priority areas in rapprochement with the European Union.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze, earlier noted that, according to the document, Ukraine will refrain from adopting regulations that are contrary to EU rules.

For its part, the European Commission will assess the compatibility of legislation and provide recommendations to achieve full integration of the energy markets of Ukraine and the EU.
