Ukraine's Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has reported a new state standard of Ukraine for wheat, which meets international standards, has come into force today, June 10, before the start of the 2019-2020 marketing year (MY, July 2019 – June 2020).

"The development of the new standard for wheat is the result of joint work, finding compromises and taking into account the interests of all market participants. It's important that the standard is coming into force before the start of the new 2019-2020 marketing year, so there will be no inconvenience regarding changes in wheat classes during the crop's storage and transportation," the ministry's press service quoted Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olena Kovalova as saying on June 10.

According to the official, the new standard provides for a reduction of the number of classes for soft non-food wheat from three to one. In addition, it increases and gives detailed specifications for bakery quality, as well as streamlines quality requirements with international and European standards.

As UNIAN reported, the business community earlier urged the Agrarian Policy Ministry to reschedule the introduction of new quality standards for wheat from August to early June.

The Technical Committee of the National Agrarian Academy of Sciences changed the national standard for wheat in October 2018.
