Ukraine seeing decrease of cash in circulation in June

Cash in circulation decreased by UAH 6.4 billion (US$246.91 million), (or 1.6%) against year-start.

The volume of cash in circulation outside the banking system of Ukraine in June decreased by 1.6%, to UAH 393.8 billion (US$15.19 billion), compared with the beginning of the year.

"Cash in circulation decreased by UAH 6.4 billion (US$246.91 million), (or 1.6%), compared with the beginning of this year. This trend is associated with a stable trend toward the growing popularity of cashless payments," the National Bank of Ukraine wrote on Facebook.

In particular, as of July 1, there were UAH 393.8 billion, including banknotes – UAH 391.3 billion (US$15.09 billion) (2.8 billion pieces) and coins – UAH 2.4 billion (US$92.59 million) (13.2 billion pieces) in cash circulation of Ukraine.

According to the NBU, comparing the Ukrainian data with that of the European Central Bank (ECB), the Eurozone now has EUR 132.8 billion banknotes and 22.8 billion coins in cash circulation.

According to the regulator, as before, UAH 200 banknotes and coins of 10 kopiykas with indicators of 23% and 29% of the market volume, respectively, prevail in the cash circulation of Ukraine, while EUR 50 banknotes and 1 euro cent coins (46% and 29%, respectively) are most-spread in the Eurozone.
