Ukraine boosts grain exports by over 40% since July 1

Some 2.5 million tonnes of wheat was shipped abroad.

Ukrainian farmers exported 5.6 million tonnes of grain from July 1 (when the 2019-2020 (July 2019 – June 2020) marketing year (MY) began) to August 15, which was 41% more than by the same date last year, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has said.

In particular, Ukraine exported 2.5 million tonnes of wheat, 1.4 million tonnes of barley and 1.6 million tonnes of maize.

In addition, during the reporting period, farmers shipped 33,800 tonnes of wheat flour abroad, which was more than 1.5 times higher than on August 15, 2018.

As UNIAN reported earlier, agrarians exported 49.7 million tonnes of grain in MY 2018-2019, which was a record amount in independent Ukraine's history. The previous grain export record in Ukraine was reported in MY 2016-2017 at the level of 43.8 million tonnes.

Ukraine gathered a record high grain yield in 2018, which stood at 70.1 million tonnes, Ukraine's agriculture ministry said.
