Ukraine planning to join European energy market in 2025

Ukraine is interested in the Estonian experience of integration into the European energy market.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk has said the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plans the country will join the European energy market in 2025.

"We are interested in the Estonian experience of integration into the European energy market. We plan to join the European energy market in 2025," he said during a meeting with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, according to the Government portal.

Honcharuk added the Cabinet of Ministers was interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Estonia's experience in building a "state in a smartphone" and applying modern technology in government work, since Estonia was the first country in the world to implement the concept of e-government.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a new electricity market was launched in Ukraine on July 1 under the Electricity Market Law, the draft of which was passed by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, in April 2017. The law provides for the introduction of more competitive relations in the energy market, and meets the requirements of the European Union's Third Energy Package.
