The SBU Security Service of Ukraine is investigating into the possible subversive activities by Ukraine's former deputy economy minister in conspiracy with other persons to harm Ukraine's defense capabilities in the interests of a foreign state (Russia).

That is according to the court ruling of October 7, which was handed down by judge of Kyiv's Shevchenkivsky district court, Iryna Frolova. The ruling was published in the Unified State Register of Judicial Decisions.

The document concerns handwriting forensic examination related to a former senior official, whose identity is not disclosed.

The court materials say that the SBU Main Investigation Department is conducting a pre-trial investigation into criminal proceedings of June 5, 2019, on the grounds of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason).

It was established that a U.S. citizen, a representative of the U.S.-based Gray Fox Logistics, as well as a Ukrainian citizen, CEO of the state-run Ukrainian Center Bezpeka (Security), and the former Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, acting intentionally by prior conspiracy with other unidentified persons, have committed actions since 2017 to provide assistance to a foreign state, its organization and representatives in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.

In August 2015, the U.S. citizen, fulfilling the task of Russia's special services to obtain information about plans for supplies of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine's Armed Forces, arrived from Russia to Ukraine to establish contacts with employees of the economy ministry and the state-owned enterprises involved in the implementation of the state defense order.

Having learned about the Ukrainian side's intentions to establish serial production of 152/155 mm shells with their subsequent supplies to the Ukrainian army, the U.S. citizen entered into a criminal conspiracy with the former deputy economy minister and Bezpeka CEO to carry out subversive activities against Ukraine.

"So, in pursuit of criminal intentions, the said individuals, not intending to supply equipment to Ukraine, organized the conclusion of classified contract No. 11 of December 15, 2017, between the state-owned Bezpeka and State Joint-Stock Holding Company 'Artem' to carry out a state defense order for the procurement and transfer of equipment to ensure technical re-equipment and reconstruction of existing production capacities required for serial production of 152mm and 155mm shells until December 30, 2019," reads the ruling.

The court materials indicate that the SBU investigator appealed to Kyiv's Shevchenkivsky district court with a request to carry out a judicial handwriting examination. The judge granted his motion.

As UNIAN reported earlier, former interpreter for ex-Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Ukrainian national Stanislav Yezhov, who had pleaded guilty to high treason, was released in line with the "Savchenko Law", according to which a day spent in a pre-trial detention facility equals to two days of actual prison term.
