After the land market opens in Ukraine, a 1-hectare land plot will be sold at $2,200, Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Vysotsky suggests.

"Our calculations show that if we apply the proposed model, which is valid, it will be an average of $2,200 (the equivalent) per hectare," he told Radio NV.

"Based on the limited model, with restrictions, it will be a maximum of $1,500. This is the cost of restrictions (that's if 'only Ukrainians can buy')," the minister said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 11, President Volodymyr Zelensky said foreigners and foreign entities would be allowed to buy land only if the idea found support at an all-Ukrainian referendum.

In early September, Zelensky told the government to prepare, and Parliament to adopt, until December 1, a bill on the farmland market with the lifting of the moratorium on land sales.

A September poll by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology claimed 52% of Ukrainians disapprove of the idea of the ban lift. Only 35% of respondents support Zelensky's initiative, while 64% stand for putting the issue up for a referendum.
