Germany ready to channel EUR 200 mln into Ukraine's Energy Efficiency Fund

Germany is ready to channel EUR 200 million into the Energy Efficiency Fund, which is being created in Ukraine, if the Ukrainian government develops a plan to reimburse allocated funds, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Hennadiy Zubko.

"There is a concrete proposal from the German government as for EUR 200 million, which could be funneled in that Fund, but they need to be clearly demonstrated how these assets will be returned by the Fund's consumers," he said at a briefing at a forum on energy efficiency partnership in Kyiv on Friday.

He also said that the Ukrainian side was considering the possibility of filling up the Fund with the money to be left after the payment of subsidized compensation of households' housing and utilities costs, as fewer people will apply for the subsidies every year due to the introduction of energy saving technologies and a reduction in gas consumption.

Zubko also said that a commercial organization had been created in Germany, which is interested and ready to invest in energy efficiency projects in Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate UAH 1.57 billion under energy efficiency programs, in particular, for the compensation of 20-40% of the price of boilers that do not use gas, and for housing insulation.
