Over this week, the dollar is expected to rise against the hryvnia, says senior analyst with Alpari, Vadym Iosub.

"A dollar at an interbank market could this week be traded at about UAH 24.1, while a cash dollar in banks could be traded at about UAH 23.8/24.1," he said, according to RBC-Ukraine.

The analyst recalled that, after a long slide, the dollar did a sharp rebound on Thursday and Friday, December 26 and 27.

"Obviously, nothing has changed fundamentally in the Ukrainian economy over these two days. The growth in demand for foreign currency was clearly speculative. Friday was the last full day when you could buy currency and manage to pay off a foreign currency loan or pay for an import contract," he said.

In the coming days after the New Year, the market should bounce back, the dollar will stabilize, and later it has a high chance of moving down, towards UAH 23.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the hryvnia is completing the year at a rate of UAH 23.69 per dollar.
