A four-day negotiation process between Gas Transmission Service Operator of Ukraine (Gas TSO of Ukraine) and Russia's Gazprom on gas transit via Ukraine from January 2020 has completed, according to Serhiy Makogon, CEO of Operator of Gas Transmission System of Ukraine LLC.

"Today at 5:28 we completed an almost round-the-clock four-day negotiation marathon with Gazprom in Vienna. I'm already flying to Brussels to address another important task – the timely signing of an inter-connection agreement with the Slovak GTS operator, Eustream, based on European rules," Makogon wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, Makogon did not specify the outcome of the negotiation process, which was expected to finalize the agreement on a new gas transit contract.

As UNIAN reported earlier, following trilateral negotiations held December 20 in Minsk between Ukraine, the European Union, and Russia regarding gas transit, Gas TSO of Ukraine and Russia's Gazprom continued bilateral talks in Vienna.

Following the trilateral talks, Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel said a protocol was signed obliging the parties to fulfill a number of agreements reached.

At the end of this year, Gas TSO of Ukraine signed inter-connection agreements with counterparts in Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Poland. Negotiations with the Slovak operator Eustream and Russian Gazprom are at their final stages.

Earlier, cooperation of Gas TSO of Ukraine with foreign operators had been blocked by a long-term contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Russia's Gazprom, which expires on January 1, 2020.
