Avdiyivka in Donbas left without electricity amid repairs on power line

The Main Directorate of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine in Donetsk region says electricity supplies to the town of Avdiyivka in Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine, are halted for twenty-four hours due to restoration work on the power line.

In addition, five settlements in the Yasynuvata district are left without electricity. In total, over 24,000 residents saw a blackout, the agency said on Friday, January 3.

"Two mobile power stations with capacity of 80 kW and 40 kW and two workers are involved in providing electricity to critical infrastructure facilities in Avdiyivka," the report said.

In particular, the local military and civilian administration, a pension fund office, an Ukrtelecom branch, a police station, an emergency ward, and a heating pump station for 14-story apartment building have been provided with electricity.

"The lack of electricity does not affect the heat supplies to the households. Drinking water is supplied to the population as usual," the agency added.

Electricity supplies should be restored on January 4.
