Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, former Member of Parliament of Ukraine Refat Chubarov has said the situation with water in annexed Crimea is worse than Russian media report.

"A 100-day water reserve in Simferopol. The situation is even worse in the cities of the south coast, in particular in Yalta and Alushta," said Chubarov, the Ukrainian online news outlet Obozrevatel reports.

According to the official, Crimeans' hopes for rain and snow in the autumn-winter period have been dashed. Water reservoirs across the peninsula have been drying down.

At the same time, Chubarov emphasized there was no "humanitarian catastrophe" in Crimea.

"There is enough water in Crimea for the households but water sources are insufficient for economic activity, for military facilities... So no one should try to force us to supply water, as if 'there is a humanitarian catastrophe.' There is no humanitarian catastrophe in Crimea from the point of view of water supplies [to the households]!" he said.

Chubarov reiterated the occupying country's full responsibility for all issues arising in the occupied territory, in accordance with international law.

"Let the Russians bear responsibility," he added.
