"As promised, we will launch a large-scale project on March 1. We want to connect all 'corners' of our country with high-quality roads," he said while presenting the government's plans during the "Knit Ukraine Together: Security, Construction, Financing" event in Kyiv on February 11.

According to Zelensky, it is planned to repair 4,000 kilometers of roads of state importance. So, a record high sum worth UAH 85 billion (US$3.5 billion) will be allocated for the project.

In addition, UAH 22.2 billion (US$909 million) will be spent on the overhaul of local roads.

The move will help create 12,000 new jobs, the president said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk considered the construction of roads to be the government's main task in 2020.

"The country needs to be connected by roads. This is probably task No. 1 for next year," he said late in 2019.
