As for the grain group, yields of rye and spring wheat are also expected to increase, to 355,400 tonnes (by 6.7%) and to 696,800 tonnes (5.3%), respectively, the press service of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics" said on March 26.

Rice production is expected to remain almost at the level of the past year, that is 54,500 tonnes, which is 0.2% down from 2019.

Growth in yields is projected for those crops that again became profitable last year.

In particular, the profitability of pea production was 12.2% last year, whereas the crop was unprofitable in 2018 (-5.4%). The situation was similar for buckwheat whose profitability in 2019 was 6.5% (-17.2% in 2018), while that of rye reached a record high 43.2% in 2019 (-2.2% in 2018).

At the same time, the yield of other grain crops is projected to shrink by 10%, or 7.7 million tonnes.

"However, the harvest at 67.3 million tonnes will be the third result over Ukraine's history and will not significantly affect the saturation of the domestic market," the report said.
