Ukraine boosted exports of agricultural products to US$5.7 billion in January-March 2020, which was 6% up year-over-year.

"This result was achieved due to an increase in shipments in the following categories: fats and oils by US$235.1 million (19% up), finished products by US$74.8 million (9% up), crops by US$49.3 million (2% up)," the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club said.

In particular, exports of sunflower oil grew most – by 17%, while maize exports rose by 8% and those of barley by 2.3 times.

Meanwhile, exports of rapeseed almost halved, shipments of soybeans abroad fell by 20%, and those of wheat by 4%.

Exports of animal products in January-March 2020 decreased by 15%, to US$266 million.

"The decrease was caused by a reduction in supplies of eggs from Ukraine by US$13.1 million (36% down) and shipments of poultry meat by US$10.5 million (7% down). This situation was the result of a partial ban on exports of these products over the outbreak of bird flu in Ukraine," it said.

Agri-imports for the said period increased by 18%, to US$1.7 billion.

In particular, Ukraine almost doubled cheese imports, while citrus fruit purchases abroad grew by 20%. What is more, potato imports soared by 12 times.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2019 updated the historical record of agri-exports, having shipped farm produce worth US$22.4 billion onto foreign markets, which was almost 20% more than a year earlier. Last year, agri-imports to Ukraine increased by 11%, to US$6.1 billion.
