Ukraine asks Germany to extradite Brokbusinessbank banker Tymonkin

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) of Ukraine has sent a request to Germany for the extradition of former member of the supervisory board of PJSC Brokbusinessbank Borys Tymonkin, who was detained in Cottbus, Germany, on June 14, 2015.

Deputy Prosecutor General Vitaliy Kasko said that Tymonkin was wanted in connection with the investigation of the criminal proceedings, under which Tymonkin together with Serhiy Kurchenko [Ukrainian businessman, owner of Gaz Ukraina, UMH media holding, Metalist Kharkiv and chairman of VETEK's supervisory board, who fled Ukraine in February 2014] are suspected of having committed a number of serious and especially grave crimes, the PGO's Office of Public Relations and Mass Media reported.

"Tymonkin and Kurchenko are suspected of involvement in a criminal organization, misappropriation of assets of PJSC Brokbusinessbank, JSB Ukrgasbank and PJSC Agrarian Fund in a large scale amount of UAH 4.7 billion, money laundering and forgery," Kasko said.

In case of a 'guilty' verdict, Tymonkin and Kurchenko will be sentenced of up to 15 years with confiscation of property.

As reported earlier, in 2013, Tymonkin was appointed deputy head of the supervisory board of Kurchenko’s VETEK group of companies. Prior to that, he has worked for 12 years as head of one of the largest Ukrainian banks – Ukrsotsbank. At the end of February 2014, he went to France for a "routine" treatment by a starvation diet. In June 2014, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry put Tymonkin on the wanted list.
