Moscow may introduce retaliatory measures against the seven countries that have supported the European Union's extended sanctions against Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Thursday, according to Russian news agency TASS.

"Of course, [retaliatory measures] may follow," Peskov said.

"We repeat once again that the fundamental principle is the principle of mutuality," he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the EU announced on Wednesday that EU candidate counties such as Montenegro and Albania, such members of the European Free Trade Association as Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, as well as Ukraine had joined the EU Council's decision to extend its sanctions against Russia until January 31, 2016. Later, it was reported that the sanctions had been supported by Georgia.
