Ukrainian economy sees 14.7% contraction in Q2

Ukraine's gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 14.7% in the second quarter of 2015, year-over-year (in constant prices of 2010), according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

At the same time, the decline slowed to 0.9% as compared to the first quarter of 2015 due to the seasonal factor.

The State Statistics Service did not provide other details.

The country's GDP declined by 17.2% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, and by 6.5% compared from the fourth quarter of 2014, taking into account the seasonal factor.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry on August 11, 2015, released its estimates of Ukraine's GDP, saying it fell by 16.3% in the first half of 2015.

The Cabinet of Ministers has developed three scenarios of economic development in Ukraine for the current year, according to which the fall of the country's GDP is expected to range between 5.5% and 11.9% The International Monetary Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development project Ukraine's GDP may fall by 9% in 2015. The World Bank in turn predicts a 7.5% decline in Ukraine's GDP in 2015.
