Ukraine drops foreign trade in motor cars to 15-year low

The volume of Ukraine’s passenger car imports decreased by 23% in January-June of 2015 compared to the same period of last year, down to 26,449 cars, Ukraine’s association of car producers Ukravtoprom reported.

"Foreign trade in passenger cars in H1 of 2015 showed the worst performance in the last 15 years," reads the report.

The total value of imported cars in the said period was $ 355.2 million, according to the report.

"New cars amounted to 64% of total imports, which means a reduction of this index by 30 percentage points compared to the previous year," the report says.

Read alsoUkrainian honey exports on rise in H1According to the association, most cars were imported from Germany (5,827), with the customs value amounting to $63.9 million. Japan goes second with 3,738 cars ($84.1million). 2,884 cars were imported from France ($12.5 million).

It is also reported that car exports from Ukraine has decreased by 88% compared with the same period of last year - down to 167 cars ($2.2 million).

As UNIAN reported earlier, in 2014, imports of motor vehicles in Ukraine decreased more than two times - down to 146,500, while their customs value amounted to over $1.6 billion. 62,624 passenger cars were imported, 57,974 of which were new cars.
